The province of Ranong is located in sandwich position between Burma and the Thai province of Chumphon.
Due to the fact that the rainy season lasts nearly eight months and many rivers flowing through the Ranong province, the region is known for agriculture. There is nearly no plant that does not grow in Ranong.
Due to its proximity to Burma a kind of Visa tourism was created. Many foreigners in Thailand are only allowed to stay a maximum of three months in Thailand. They are forced to leave Thailand for a day or at least for an hour to get an exit stamp and come back to Thailand to get an entry stamp. That not really for foreigners accessible Burma has close to the city of Ranong a town, where foreigners can enter short time to to extend the visa. However, it is not allowed to leave the village. The village is blocked off by the military so that nobody can leave.
